burgermeister meisterburger.

Photobucket

It is winter, and I do love it, but it only FEELS like winter here every couple days.

Photobucket

Outside is fun.

Photobucket

We went puddle-jumping a few days before Christmas.. in short sleeves. It was beautiful outside, and since Grammie gave Hailee some rain boots, we decided to put them to good use :)

Photobucket

She had so much fun. Since I'm not much for mud/getting dirty, she kept looking at me like, "look mom, I'm jumping in the mud!!! And it's SO MUCH FUN!!!" I had on flip-flops so I couldn't do much puddle-jumping.

Photobucket

She also got a dress-up 'princess' outfit from Mimi and Papa a few days before Christmas and just had to wear it the following days.

Photobucket
this is the burgermeister meisterburger.
he does NOT like toys.
he would not like it here right now...

I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas :)
We did!! It was a very Busy Christmas, and we will probably stick closer to home next year instead of leaving the house first thing and not getting back until 6:30 PM. It was a lot of fun though, and we got to see lots of family :)

I think Hailee was a little overwhelmed with everything this year. She understood it, but was just a bit over-stimulated.

Photobucket

Hailee's room after Christmas... I Still haven't even attempted to clean it up.

Photobucket
THIS is what I want to do... I'd need a WHOLE WALL of these things!!
Getting organized is one thing. Staying organized is a whole nother story.

Photobucket
We had stockings too, but they went up at the last minute.

Photobucket

Santa's German cookies, Milk, and a pack of smarties [via Hailee]

Photobucket

a few of our gifts.

Photobucket

This makes me so happy :)

They've already had a few father/daughter tea parties. Who would have thought a $5 porcelain tea set from walmart [the last one on the shelf] would be such a hit?? And lucky for us, my parents got a tea set for her too!! That way, when they have her and I'm in school, they can have tea parties over there too. [I was more of a barbie girl myself.]

Photobucket
Who loves their little girl? I DO!!!! my snugly little nugget :)

Photobucket

We've been painting today.

I've also discovered Pinterest. That site is kinda cool. I really like it. SOOOOO MANY WONDERFUL IDEAS!! Literally, this website has everything you could want, and much more. I'm still learning my way around it, but I've already seen tons of things I want to try :)

Photobucket
like I said, this is just a few things I've picked...

I ordered my phone upgrade yesterday and sent it to myself overnight.
Well, Verizon tricked me.

My new, White, iPhone will not be here until tomorrow.
Photobucket
I guess they meant OVERNIGHT from when it ships. It shipped today. blah!!
I'm excited about getting it, even though I won't know the 1st thing about how to use it.
I'll be hitting up all my friends with their iPhones for tips and such.
I was TRYING to get it to come today because tomorrow we have a bunch of things to do - and I don't have time to sit around at home waiting for a package to get here that I have to sign for. Roger even has off a half day tomorrow and we were gonna meet up at lunch after I took Hailee over to Mimi and Papa's so we could go on a lunch date with a Christmas gift card.

I had a dream last night that I was really mean to my sister-in-law, Cynthia, and she got so mad at me that she never wanted to talk to me again. I told her it was PMS, but she didn't want to hear it. I woke myself up crying!! -crazy- That would really suck.
Thank goodness it wasn't for real!

We are blessed with an awesome family on both sides. There is so much love in our family, God is the the only way that it can be explained. We have everything we need and more than we could have ever imagined at this point in our lives.
Thank-you Jesus :):):)

not a creature is stirring...

Is 11:00 PM too late for a 2andahalf year old to go to sleep?
I think so.
BUT, tell that to my 2andahalf year old. It gets very hard when Roger and I go to sleep/wake up at the same time as our daughter. The only quiet time we have is when Hailee is napping. [sometimes a 2 hour stretch]

This all started in the beginning.
When Hailee was born, I was working a 2nd shift job, going in at 3:30 PM and not getting home sometimes until 1 AM. So, I WANTED her to sleep as late as she possibly could - so I could too!! She still never slept completely through the night. I nursed her until she was 11 months old, so we'd wake up sometimes at least 2x a night.
But now, with me being in school and having to wake up with the chickens, I just can't hang out all late like I used to! Maybe it has something to do with turning 30 too...
This morning, my "inner alarm clock" woke me up around 6:30 am. It's now 8:15, and Hailee is still sleeping. But I've gotten to do tons of quiet stuff this morning!! I've had quiet time, drank 2 FULL mugs of coffee (my big snow man mug:), scoped out the Kohl's add ahead of time because that's where we're headed today, picked up all the Squinkies off the living room floor, put in my contacts (I CAN SEE!!!), moved some of the dirty dishes off the counter... and to think, I almost wanted to wake up Hailee early so she'd take an early nap!!

All Right, Christmas is now 3 days away.
I WILL finish Christmas shopping today - i think - which might include a trip to a grocery store deli for some baked goods since I'm pretty much failing at every attempt to bake so far.
Last night was no different from any other of my previous baking experiences. I followed the recipe EXACTLY for "molasses sugar cookies" and wouldn't you know, I burned the bottom of like 4 whole batches!! YES, I did end up turning my oven down because it's old and cooks things faster than most ovens. I got so mad and was just, done. I threw away the last 1/3 of dough because I just couldn't.

Photobucket
of the whole batch, this is all that made it through. not enough for 6 families...

I'm trying to be all crafty this year too. It's funny because we all know, I'm NO Martha Stewart, no matter how much I want to be :) How is it that she is SO GOOD at EVERYTHING??!! I'm domesticated enough, but she encompasses hearth and home. And I'll admit, she is good at what she does. I'm just trying to keep my house clean! I love it when my mom and dad call and say they're "stopping by" in 30 minutes (or, anyone for that matter). WHO DOESN'T do the mad dash to clean up, make homes for things that normally sit on the kitchen table until they get thrown in the trash, throw every dirty dish taking up space in the sink into the dishwasher (hopefully, it's empty), pull the covers up on the bed so it looks made, and sweep the sand out of the kitchen (because Lexington is NOTHING BUT sand...). Hailee even tried to help me yesterday by seeing mommy in Cleaning Mode, and grabbing the swiffer to push the dirt around the kitchen floor :)

Photobucket
 Hailee and her swiffer

By the way, it's now 8:30 AM and she's still sleeping...

I've even been able to play my guitar/sing during some of this lovely winter break! I should probably play a little more before next week though, because I'll be playing next Wednesday night service and new years eve service (only like 3 days apart) and if I don't toughen up my fingers, I'll be hurting!! You should check it out online if you can't make it. http://cclexington.org/ We live right behind the church. It's great :) But once school starts back January 9th, I won't be playing as much :(
Hailee's favorite song right now is the Little Drummer Boy. She makes up the words until the "pa rum pum pum pum" part - which she's got down pat!

Oh, and I think I'm leaning more towards getting an iPhone.

Photobucket
doing some early morning reading.

Is it really the 1st day of winter? And it's going to be in the 70's today?? We've had our windows open all week. I love the mild temps, but something about it just isn't right. I'm hoping it's like the Bible says it is and Jesus will be coming back for us soon. maranatha! Lots of stuff is going down that makes it all look like and point to Jesus' coming. I really hope we get raptured and don't have to go through all that tribulation stuff. It seems kinda scary. But anywho, gotta go make some noise because it's now almost 9 AM and sleeping beauty STILL isn't making her debut.

R and R.

So much free time.
Not many more shopping days until Christmas.
Gotta get motivated to get some things done.
So. Hard.

Now that I'm not in constant study mode, it's almost as if I feel like I'm doing something wrong.
Like, I SHOULD be studying and learning stuff.
It feels like it has been a really long weekend. I don't have to wake up early, I don't have to go to school, I don't have to type up study guides, I don't have to go over power points, I don't have to listen to recorded lectures, I don't have to coordinate taking/picking Hailee up from my parents, we just... are.
no plans.
I do need to head into town [hahaha, country huh!!] and do a little more shopping, and some dreaded  Christmas baking... everyone better LOVE their Christmas presents because baking is no easy task for me.
I can cook all day long, but Bake?? not so much. That's what bakery's are for ;)

Last night, we went to Aunt Cynthia's and Uncle Brian's and Hailee decorated Gingerbread Men with her cousin. (I've tried baking the cut-out gingerbread cookies and failed) Hailee loves to eat gingerbread cookies!! She always has the best time with her cousins too (and it lets Roger and I have some adult time/conversation that you just don't get with a 2 year old)

Photobucket

We also put together a Gingerbread House. It was a pre-made kit Roger picked up one day on his way home. NO BAKING WAS INVOLVED!!! and it still fell apart. It was fun while it lasted.

Photobucket

This December has been unseasonably warm at times. There have been some 70* days. Beautiful!!! I'm pretty sure it's going to be nice this week too. At least one 70* day even though it is supposed to rain. We played outside all day in short-sleeves and flip flops. Every single one of our windows were opened, Roger washed his car, it's the middle of winter people, this isn't normal.

Photobucket

It's time for a phone upgrade for me and I just do not know which one to get. My brother has a droid, lots of iPhones are out there, but I'm not paying $200 for a phone. Not when I could get one for free. I probably wouldn't even know how to work and iPhone. [I do really want that instagram app for pictures though..] The concept is nice, but Roger complains about me being on my phone too much already (i'm not, his phone just doesn't do anything cool, so he doesn't understand :) Tell me what you think when it comes to phones. I just don't know which one to pick. It might have to have an indestructible feature, because I have a serious case of the Dropsy's and have already damaged multiple phones from it.

My baby is laying on the couch, zoning out to The Backyardigans, with a half-eaten Gingerbread man sitting on a plate next to her. Yes, I know, cookies for breakfast? Why not.
I really want to make some Zuppa Toscana in the next few days. The only thing I need is the Kale. Oh, and maybe some garlic bread sticks. This was the last time I made it. It's probably my favorite soup ever. Recipe is under my family's favorite recipes at the top of the page...

Photobucket

Still waiting to see if something special is going to be delviered today before we get ready to head and and do some shopping. I hate going somewhere when I know UPS is on the way - they can never find our house down this winding dirt road. There are 2 houses and a huge garage/barn thing before you even get to our house, and no one ever goes all the way down the road to where we are.

I'm going to go love on my little girl some. Hope everyone has a great day!

1 semester down.

all i can say is .... WHEW!!!!!!!!!!
1 out of 5 semesters is over!
that was one of the hardest things I've ever done.
I've said it before and I'll say it again... nursing school is NO JOKE!!!
These last 2 weeks of school have been so exhausting. I've studied so much, it's came close burn-out overload

We took our final 2 tests yesterday. They were computerized, standardized, kind of like a mimic NCLEX [the RN licensure exam]. I'm glad we're taking them because they will prepare us for the actual NCLEX when we graduate. [hopefully..] but they were incredibly hard. And until the last minute and the last question, I wasn't sure I even passed, but I did :)

Our final exams [in nutrition and nursing 101] were amazingly hard too! Brutal even.
Our c/o 2013 has been good about giving AWESOME rationale for wrong test questions.. because we're smart :) Our final grades were just posted...
I MADE 'A's IN BOTH MY CLASSES!!!
not some huge accomplishment because 2 classes is nothing. 4 classes - that WILL BE something. But it won't be until January 9.

I will not miss waking up between 5 & 5:30 every morning.

Photobucket

Those Final exams made everyone in my class nervous. No one was sure of what to expect going in to them, and NO ONE was happy with what we saw. Yes, they're supposed to be cummulative of everything we've learned thus far, but seriously, I thought it would be general, main ideas we covered. Some of that was on there, but it went into much more depth than I could have ever imagined. When I was done with those exams, I wasn't that sure of my grade anymore. [bu-bye A's...] Then, to magically see an A on my nutrition final exam and a B on my Nursing final exam, I have no idea HOW that happened!!

A friend in my class is letting me borrow her Microbiology books. I have them now. I'll start looking over them and the notes I have in a few weeks. I need to get a jump start on this one because with all that will be going on next semester, I'm gonna need it.

So far, my break has been consumed with cleaning. With all the studying I've been doing, there just hasn't been time to keep up with all the dirty dishes and dirty clothes and dust bunnies. Now, I'm making up for it. Cleaning is not one of my favorite things to do.

Photobucket

There are some magazines I need to catch up on. Might as well not even have subscriptions anymore. I don't have time to read anything other than my school books and notes. I have missed my favorite girl too! She was with mimi & papa the last few days so I could finish up the semester.

There is still Christmas shopping to be done. Hopefully it will be finished in the next 9 days. Christmas is coming!!!

short and sweet.

2 more weeks of school left.

well, if you REALLY want to get technical, 7 days.

8 tests!!

when i think about that, it makes me want to throw up a little.

1. DCT test #6
2. Nutrition test #6
3. Nursing Fundamentals test #6
4. Nutrition FINAL EXAM
5. Nursing FINAL EXAM
6. Nutrition ATI exam [computerized test]
7. Fundamentals ATI exam [computerized test]
8. Critical Thinking ATI [this is the only one that won't be graded, but used as a baseline for when we take it again our senior year...]

so far, i have all [both] A's!!!

has this semester flown by or what?
our class went from around 100 to around 75 and may even be smaller when we come back in January!
by now, i pretty much know everyone's names, even if i don't know them know them. it's still sad to see people go. next semester is going to be a beast for me, but right now, i can't even think about that.
:) all i can think about is EVERYTHING i need to be studying and NO TIME to study it all.
i think all of us are about as overwhelmed right now as we were at the beginning when we didn't know how/what to study, except this time, it's a cumulative thing. we know what to study, but it's about retention, and remembering everything we've learned thus far.

i had my last hospital clinical of the semester oh-so-early this morning and i'd have to say, it was my best so far! i had a moment where i actually thought, "i really feel like a nurse" today.
i can do this!!!
i'm gonna be a RN :)
i worked with a senior today [a senior is technically 1 year ahead of me.. 2 year associate degree program] and she was so totally confident in everything she was doing.
next semester, we'll be doing much more than just bed baths and i'm still nervous about that - but she made it look easy. caring for people is a pretty natural thing for me, so hopefully, everything else will be too!

i have been one lucky girl to not get "sick" this semester. i've had my moments of a fleeting cold, but nothing that stopped me from going to class. i even felt like i had something coming on for the last week, but nothing really developed - thank you JESUS! there is literally no time to be sick.
i'm making study guides, reading study guides, back and forth through all my PowerPoint's, listening to recorded lectures [thank you austin for letting me borrow your voice recorder - that thing has been super!] blah blah blah... i've told my child "in a minute!" so many times, she's telling ME that now!!

did i mention how much i LOVE my husband? he's great! he's a better father than i could have ever imagined for our sweet little girl and is solely and completely compatible with me in every. which. way. he's my best friend. God certainly knew what He was doing when He brought us together - even though it wasn't in the best circumstances, He uses everything for His good and for His glory!!
i love my husband :) hopefully he'll take hailee somewhere outside to play for the next few days and give mommy some time to study ;) - but even if he doesn't...

HAILEE...
-got stuck on top of her play kitchen in her room and had to call me to come get her down. tonight.
-drew all over her leg (pictures on FB). one PERSON she drew was actually pretty good! tonight.
-licked her finger and touched her 'where's waldo' book - roger told her not to do it and she promptly responded "it's just my lick-it daddy!" tonight.
-has THE BEST memory and i'm constantly being surprised by it.
-took every single toy out of her toybox to find her play cell phones then told me how much of a mess it was in her room.. i'll clean it up later!! tonight.
-i was s-p-e-l-l-i-n-g the things my mom and dad got hailee for Christmas so i could "tell" roger with hailee in the room - and that smart child looked at me said "i need that! get me a-b-c's..." and then attempted to spell what i was spelling!! "go get a-b-c mommy!! i need it!" tonight
-puts on her dorothy [ruby red sparkly] shoes whenever they are anywhere in close proximity.
-LOVES "dippin cheese" - tortilla chips with mild cheddar dip - we really don't do this very often, but every once in a while, i get it..
-LOVES when i find her a "lick a stix" - that powdered candy with the white dipping stick, the dollar store used to have them, but i haven't seen them in a while..
-loses squinkies all the time and i find them in the most random places (shoes, bookbags, purses, cups)
-forgets about the #5. she says " 1 2 3 4 6 7 8.."

have a great weekend! you know what mine will consist of :)

giving thanks

Gobble Gobble

happy thanksgiving :)

I'm pretty thankful that my first semester of nursing school is coming to a close :) Honestly, I haven't studied half as much as I will next semester.

I'm thankful that all my family is in the same place and we don't have to go very far to see one another.

I'm thankful for a patient husband and a sweet daughter who choose to love me every day.

I'm thankful for friends that are always there, no matter how long it's been since we've talked/hung out.

I'm thankful for family traditions:
  • Thanksgiving lunch at Grandma Betty's - kitchen full of food, table full of deserts - plastic silver ware that we wash every year [i always get the pink plastic spoon :)]
  • Aunt Linda's sweet potato pie
  • We used to have the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade on in the background leading up to lunch - now, it's the AK dog show because my Aunt Wanda is very into dog grooming.
  • Football. Football. & Football.
  • Family soccer game in the backyard [all the cousins minus me]
  • Going home with bowls full of left-overs
  • thanksgiving day naps
what are you thankful for?

*****

I'll be the 1st to tell you that I know nothing about HTML. But slowly, this blogging thing has become very enjoyable to me and I'm learning a few things. At the top of my page, I've added "favorite family recipes" and will be putting all the stuff we love and cook pretty regularly. I DO need some new, healthy recipes though, so any suggestions are more than welcome!

*****
Last weekend, we had our very 1st photo shoot with Roger's side of the family. These are some of the proofs we get to choose from. There are around 136 in total, but I'm  trying to narrow it down a little because that can get pricey!! Sarah D'Attoma was our photographer and the pictures turned out beautiful!

I'm VERY THANKFUL that she took so many pictures because there are always pics where people aren't looking, eyes are closed, mouths are in mid-talking awkward positions.
Hailee posed most of the time.
We had to keep reminding her to put her hands down. This was definitely a First. For the 1st 2 years of her life, every time I took her to get her pictures made, no one could do ANYTHING to make her smile.
Let's just say things have changed.

I have one more check-off in lab to complete - next week! then that will be all for the labs. It is a "draw out of the hat" where we have to draw one of the skills we've already checked off on and do it for the instructors. I'm pretty nervous about it because there are many skills that could be in that hat so I have a lot of reading/video watching ahead of me over this Thanksgiving break.

And my last clinical day in the Hospital will be Fri, 12/02. So hard to believe it's almost December. There are 4 small presents wrapped up under our tree and that was even a gamble trying to decide if we should put those out - Hailee wants to open them so bad, already! I don't know if she'll be able to make it to Christmas. She's so excited!

Photobucket

There were a few days of sweaters, sweatshirts, furry socks - then it was 80 degrees outside again. Then I think we were supposed to have some rain/storms come through last night along with another cold front. I completely slept through that. And it's 70 degrees outside now. It doesn't not feel like fall at the moment. But the trees sure know what's up ;)

Photobucket

Hailee spotted her Halloween costume hanging in her closet this morning, and just HAD to put it on.

Photobucket

Everyone likes to feel pretty! Even with her bunny slippers on; not the ballerina shoes.
She was so funny - she calls this her "princess gown" couldn't find the matching magic wand to go with it though.

..and finally, the reason for the season.. I'm most thankful for this:

"For unto us a child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

preoccupied.

Another fast, busy week has flown by - and there's still so much I need to do before Tuesday.
Tuesday, 11/22/11, is the only day I will go to school next week. [thank you thanksgiving break!!] That day, I have my 5th nutrition test, my 5th DCT test [dosage calculations], and chart-smart module #7 due [charting computer work - I already turned this in].

THIS PAST week, we had our check-off's for both intramuscular injections on the deltoid muscle, and urinary catheter placement. They were done over Tues, Wed, and Thurs. LUCKY FOR ME [:)], I had both of them 1st thing Tuesday morning. I was sooooo glad to get them over with. I had injections down and could do them in my sleep, but catheter was a whole nother monster in itself. There is SO MUCH to think about when inserting a urinary catheter.. sterile procedure, so it had to be - not clean - but completely sterile!! I was nervous about that whole part of it. It is a very meticulous procedure that has lots of steps involved. I got in there, did it, passed, and could finally relax!! I was so mentally exhausted from preparing for it, that I was in bed by 9:30 that night.

I had my 2nd clinical in the hospital Friday morning too. I stay with my aunt and uncle in Orangeburg the night before clinical since it's only 10 min from the hospital. I STILL have to get up at 4:45AM to be there by 6:15 AM. Next time, I will probably get up even earlier than that!! It took me forever to fall asleep for some reason, and as I was getting ready that EARLY morning, I tripped a fuse in the bathroom with my blow drier. I searched the house, found the fuse box, and didn't see a thing out of place : / That put me back at least 10 min.. Then I get to the hospital a little later than I wanted to - and could not find my hospital badge and student name pin!!! So I was rummaging through my bookbag in my trunk in the dark to find my student ID and other name pin. [thank GOD I had those .. and no one noticed they were different :)] I practically was running from the student parking lot - so far away - to the building because it was 30 something degrees out - and I wasn't wearing a jacket so I wouldn't have to keep up with it. I get in the building and go to the wrong stair well - up 6 flights of stairs to the 3rd floor - THEN realize my mistake and had to run down 6 flights to start that all over again.. When I finally get to the 3rd floor the right way, it was almost 6:30, time to get going, and I was already out of breath!! But, it was still a good day :) This experience was NOTHING like my 1st clinical last week - but so far, both of them have been great. I LOVE my clinical instructor and all the people in my group!! They are awesome, and kind, and compassionate, and great friends to have on your side.

I'm also finally getting to know more people in my class. There were some people that dropped the class last week and our numbers are slowly dropping [still - not as fast as it usually does], and I'm sad to see them go, but it is a very challenging course-load and I can completely understand why they have to drop. Maybe next year they can try again?? I love to help my class-mates in any way that I can! We're all in this for the same reason, with the same goals and it's neat to see people pull together and help each other out without getting competitive!
My mind has been on a million different things this week. I've been trying to study for these tests, but with Hailee here with me, it's nearly impossible. She keeps my attention focused on her. I can't read or think when it's just me and her, so I don't even try to. If I did, I'd just get frustrated and probably snap at her. I NEED to practice my DCT calculations like WHOA!! This next test will be on medication labels and I haven't even looked at that stuff yet. It's pretty much the same concept as the last 2 DCT tests, but this time we have pictures to figure out along with the conversion problems.
I have a lot of studying still to do still for nutrition too. [see what I just did with that last sentence? that's what happens when Hailee's talking to me and I'm trying to do something else at the same time. THAT is why I usually don't do anything when it's just us].

this is what we do instead...
Photobucket

yes, she got in there all by herself.. I discovered this after the fact.

*******

Yesterday, we had family pictures taken at a park here in Lexington, with Roger's parents, his sister's family and us 3 for a total of 10 people. It was stressful leading up to the pictures trying to figure out what Hailee would wear, what Roger would wear, and what I would wear - to coordinate with what everyone else was wearing... and the pictures were scheduled for 4:30 PM, which was a good time, but Hailee decided she didn't want to take a nap regardless of how hard I tried to get her to lay down between 1 - 2 PM. By then, I just gave up. If she wasn't asleep before 2, there's no way we'd ever have enough time to get her ready by 4.
Roger got a nap - at least someone slept..
So we were rushing out of the house @ 4PM. I forgot my wedding rings, Hailee's jacket, and a stack of books I was going to give my mother-in-law. I cannot stand rushing around at the last minute :|

After we finished taking pictures, Hailee played on the playground at the park with her cousins. She has so much fun with them and gets so excited when she learns she's going to spend time with them. [she's at their house right now and i'm sure she's loving every second!]

Photobucket

Roger's dad has some bursitis in his knee, and for the first time, I got to use my nursing skills and all that I've been learning/memorizing so far. How cool was it that I knew what it was, how to treat it, and got to see it on a person instead of in my school book??!! Made me a little excited about becoming a nurse :) :) :)

Grammie brought Hailee some bunny slippers that she loves!

Potty training is exhausting! But just yesterday, it started getting better. Then again, it could have just been a good day - we've been at it for half a year, and she pretty much knows the deal, but gets so wrapped up in what she's doing that she 'forgets' she has to go potty..

The house is in dire need of a thorough cleaning. I did some yesterday, but can't do it all. baby steps.

We still don't have a solid plan on what we're doing for Thanksgiving this year. Either way, it's not a big deal what we decide, but I'm ready to nail it down so I know what's going on.

i really should be studying right now, so that's just what i'm going to go do!
have a happy thanksgiving with lots of great food - and a good week :)
